About the Driver's License Medical

A health certificate is required when renewing a driver's license in certain cases. The certificate confirms that you are medically fit to drive. We carry out the examination and issue the health certificate.

Who must submit a health certificate?

According to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, you must submit a health certificate to renew your driver's license if:

  • You are 80 years or older
  • You are renewing heavy classes — lorry (C, CE), light lorry (C1, C1E), bus (D, DE) or minibus (D1, D1E)
  • Your driver's license has limited validity due to health

What does the examination include?

  • General health assessment
  • Vision test and visual field examination
  • Hearing test (if required)
  • Assessment of physical and mental fitness for driving
  • Evaluation of any conditions that may affect driving ability

Accepted ID

You must bring valid identification to the examination. The following ID is accepted:

  • Passport
  • National ID card
  • Physical driver's license (not digital version)
  • Bank card with photo

Self-Declaration

The self-declaration form can be filled out at our clinic or in advance.

Validity

  • The health certificate cannot be older than three months when the Norwegian Public Roads Administration receives it
  • If you are 80 years or older, the driver's license can be renewed for up to three years at a time
  • Heavy classes are normally renewed for five years — shorter validity may apply from age 66 or due to health-related restrictions
